Corporal Richard Guy Vowles, aged 31 and from York, was captured at Dieppe on 19 August 1942 and was a prisoner of war until liberated in 1945. He had initially been wrongly reported by the War Office as killed in action and this was published in the local newspapers. In October 1942 the family were informed that he was alive and a prisoner of war. Post war member of the Commando Association from Tiverton, Devon.
