Recommendation
This Officer in co-operation with Lieutenant Ritchie, R.N. carried out an important reconnaissance of a beach in territory occupied by the enemy North of Bomba between 23rd and 25th May 1942 before the ..... of a landing operation. He landed by Folbot from an M.T.B. and was two days ashore with enemy troops in his immediate vicinity. The beach reconnaissance was carried out at night in bad weather, and his wireless having failed, he made the passage of 25 miles back to the British lines at Gazala in a gale of wind sufficiently high to necessitate the withdrawal of all patrols at Tobruk, to make his report which was urgently required [3].
Post war Major Richard Allott, M.C., Middlesex Regiment, received a Mention in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Cyprus in 1957 [4].
