Company Sergeant Major Reginald Edwards died on 8 November 1944 as a result of an accident in the UK [1][2].
Normandy June 1944
  • CSM Edwards and Tprs. Barnes, Bennett, Kingsley, O'Connell, and Roberts, had been reported missing when a patrol from 3 troop returned to Chateau d'Amfreville. The patrol had left at 0130 hrs on the 27th June 1944 for the area of GDE Fme du Buisson returning 5 hours later with a prisoner (Source: No 3 Cdo War Diary June 1944).
  • Brigadier Young records in his book Storm from the Sea that they had been surrounded and taken prisoner, adding that CSM Edwards and Bennett later escaped (confirmed on Casualty Lists - WO/417/81 and Escape/Evasion reports - WO208/3351/2334).
