Robert Edgley 2 Commando
Captain Robert Edgley volunteered for the Commandos in 1944 whilst serving in the Royal Artillery. After selection and successfully passing the training he was attached to No.2 Commando accepting the temporary reduction in rank to Lieutenant which was required [1].
  • 24 August 1944 Lieutenant, Royal Artillery, to Lieutenant, Royal Sussex Regiment, retaining seniority [2].
  • 17 April 1945, No.2 Commando, wounded and reported as dangerously ill with a mortar fragment wound to his chest, during operations at Lake Comacchio. Evacuated from hospital at Bari, Italy, to hospital in the UK [1][3][3a].
  • Post war worked and resided in Sussex [4].
