Lieutenant Peter Collins M.C., 'A' troop, died during operations against the German held island of Schouwen, Holland. He had been awarded the Military Cross for gallant and distinguished service in the field. Son of Herbert Stratford Collins and Ellen Louise Collins, of Hollingbourne, Kent.
Just outside Bruinisse Lieutenant Collins, leading the patrol, met a double apron fence which he gapped, and found himself by a slit trench with two Germans. He called on these to surrender; they did so, but a third German, not before seen, threw several grenades killing the two Germans and severely wounding Lieutenant Collins and Marine Coleman [more...], his MOA. Both later died of their wounds [*].
