In 1939 Percy Langley was a Metropolitan Police Constable serving on 'F' Division, collar number 616 [1]. He volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 joining the 1st Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry, after which he was posted to No.2 Commando 6 Troop [2][2a].
