Lionel Saunders from Kent was married and working as a Shop Assistant / Salesman when he enlisted into the Royal Marines on 18 February 1941. Marine Saunders, 46RM Commando, was captured on 11 June 1944 at Rots and Le Hamel, Normandy. Initially held in captivity at Chartres, France, before being transported to Trier, Germany until 1 September 1944 when he was moved to Marlag and Milag Nord.
