Major John Pooley MC died during operations at Normandy, France. Son of Alexander St. Philip Pooley and Audrey Janet Stewart Pooley, Guildford, Surrey; husband of Mary Shaw Pooley.
- 10 January 1940 (Gunner) promoted Second Lieutenant, Royal Artillery. Later volunteered for the Commandos and attached to No.3 Commando. Awarded the Military Cross whilst a Captain in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Sicily.
