Awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for gallantry, skill, determination and undaunted devotion to duty during the landing of Allied Forces on the coast of Normandy. He was amongst a small party that took the surrender of the German radar Station at Sant Pabu in which some 600 Germans were taken prisoner.
