James Rudd Muscroft enlisted into the Royal Marines on 4 October 1938. He joined 40RM Commando sometime after its formation in 1942 and was captured on 3 June 1944 during operations at Brac Island on the Adriatic Sea off the coast of German occupied Yugoslavia (Operation Flounced). After liberation in 1945 and return to the UK he was residing in Bishop Auckland, Co.Durham.
