John Henry Gill, a Shoe Repairer from Doncaster, enlisted on 2 March 1940 and was posted to the Beds. and Herts Regt., 71st Bn. He volunteered for the Commandos and was attached to No.3 Commando. Private Gill, No.3 Commando, was reported missing on 19 August 1942 at Dieppe France, later found to be a prisoner of war.
