Herbert Valentine Baker 1 Commando
Lance Corporal Herbert Baker died during operations at Kangaw, Burma. Son of Albert and Harriet Baker, and husband of Beatrice Ellen Baker, of Handsworth, Birmingham. In 1939 Herbert was a Police Constable, number 396, residing at 26 Slater Avenue, Derby. He volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 as part of the Police Intakes to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. His name is amongst those commemorated on the WW2 Memorial Board located at Derbyshire Constabulary Headquarters, Coach Road, Ripley, Amber Valley, Derbyshire.
