Lance Corporal Harry Cunningham from Angus, Scotland, was a Medical Orderly attached to No.4 Commando. He was wounded June 1944 at Normandy [1][1a]. Awarded the Military Medal in recognition of gallantry at Flushing on 1 November 1944 [2].
Recommendation [2a].
At Flushing on 1 November 1944 this NCO medical orderly accompanying the leading troops displayed gallantry of the highest order during prolonged and bitter street fighting in the town. He showed complete disregard for his personal safety, and on one occasion when a street was under enemy machine gun fire, he left cover to attend a wounded man who was lying in the open and who required immediate attention, and remained with him under enemy sniper and machine gun fire. His conduct throughout the action was beyond praise and an inspiration to all those with whom he served.
