Second Lieutenant George Dillwyn-Venables-Llewelyn was killed in action during operations at Pothus, Norway as part of Scissors Force. Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers before the war he received a posthumous Mention in Despatches.
Son of Colonel Sir Charles Dillwyn-Venables-Llewelyn, J.P., D.L., 2nd Bt. and of Lady Llewelyn (nee Lister-Venables) of Newbridge-on-Wye, Radnorshire.
Award Recommendation
On two occasions this officer showed a complete disregard for his personal safety at Pothus. Once when the headquarters was burning and being continually machine gunned from the air, he went out and removed ammunition which was stored there to a safe place.
On the second occasion he was killed through staying behind in the rearguard action to load lorries with ammunition and stores. This he continued to do until the last lorry was loaded. He then withdrew but was cut off and shot. I consider this officer is deserving of the posthumous award for his courage under fire.
