Sergeant George Scanlon, RAMC attached to No.4 Commando, a veteran of the Dieppe raid, was awarded the Military Medal in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in North West Europe. Post war George Scanlon, a resident of Troon, was an active member of the Troon and District Branch (later the Central Ayrshire Branch) of the Commando Association being their Honorary Secretary in 1951.
