Fred Ham served in No.4 Commando 'G' Troop from 1940. Active service with them included Operation Claymore and Operation Jubilee. He later served as an Instructor at the Commando Mountain Warfare Training Centre. Fred's service as seen below included an attachment with 46RM Commando from the 20th April 1944 before rejoining the CMWTC on the 9th June 1944. Post war Fred resided in Troon, Ayrshire, where his wife Euphemia was from. They married in 1943. He joined the Prestwick Airport Fire Service in 1950 and served for 32 years retiring in 1982 as a Sub Officer. Member of the Commando Association who reported his passing in their newsletter published March 1991.

18.08.1942 embarked for Dieppe, France (Operation Jubilee 19 August).

06.10.1942 to 11.11.1942 attached to Commando Depot, Achnacarry.

16.01.1943 married to Euphemia Dewar at Bristol.

12.02.1943 No.4 Commando, reduced to rank of Corporal.

16.12.1943 attached Holding Operational Commando (H.O.C.).

01.04.1944 attached to Commando Mountain Warfare Training Centre (C.M.W.T.C).

20.04.1944 to 09.06.1944 temporarily attached 46RM Commando.

09.06.1944 rejoined C.M.W.T.C.

19.06.1944 appointed Acting Sergeant.

02.10.1944 to 15.10.1944 attended Parachute Course at Ringway.

16.12.1944 appointed War Substantive rank of Sergeant.

16.03.1945 temporarily attached HQ Commando Group.

18.03.1945 embarked UK for Belgium.

30.03.1945 embarked Belgium for UK.

23.05.1945 temporarily attached Commando Basic Training Centre, Achnacarry. 

02.06.1946 released to Class 'A' Release to Class Z (T) Reserve.
