Captain Ernest Leigh Smith, HQ Special Service Group, was awarded the Military Cross for gallant and distinguished service during a reconnaissance along the North coast of France on 15/16 May 1944 (Tarbrush) gathering vital intelligence in preparation for D Day.  
Post war member of the Commando Association.
