Frederick Emuss from Preston took part in operations at Normandy and the advance through France, the Netherlands, and into Germany. On D Day he was a Corporal in 'E' Troop, the parachute trained troop of 45RM Commando, and later promoted Sergeant.
An Officer wrote "D Day + 2. Ammunition was low and allocation was being shared amongst the Troops. By 9:00am the enemy patrols and sniping activity had increased. Counter sniping parties were organized and managed to achieve some success, in particular Corporal Emuss of Troop E and Corporal Bartholomew of Troop C had good bags".*
