Corporal Dennis Howlett was reported missing 20 April 1941 during operations in Cyrenaica (Bardia Raid), later found to be a prisoner of war. 
After the Italian Armistice on 12 September 1943 he and Cpl. McConville and Pte. Baker (both No.7 Cdo), and Spr. Padgham (RE), made off in direction of the Allied Lines. Recaptured 18 October 1943.
