Denis Ernest Martin Brook, a Food Packer from Surrey, enlisted into the Armed Forces 22 January 1940.  Trooper Brook, attached to 'A' Battalion of Layforce, was reported missing later confirmed prisoner of war 20 April 1941 during an operation at Bardia, Cyrenaica, Libya. After the Italian surrender he was released on 10 September 1943 from a Work Camp at Gassino. He evaded capture in Italy until the end of the war.
