Cemetery/Memorial:
Gunner David Miller died of wounds at 11 Casualy Clearing Station, Brindisi, Italy. Son of William and Jean Miller, of Balfron, Stirlingshire. He is not listed as a Commando on the CWGC database. Their Grave Registration Report shows No.2 Commando however on their Grave Concentration Report No.2 Commando has been scored through to show only his Regiment.
A Pte. Miller is mentioned in the No 2 Commando War Diary for the 31st July 1944.
"3 members of the unit died of wounds in 11 C.C.S. Brindisi (L/Bdr McDougall, Pte's Miller and Bunn) on Sunday 30th July. They were buried this afternoon. The C.O. and Officers and Men of the Unit attended the funeral. The wounded in hospital were also visited." This was just after the Commando raid at Spilje Albania.
There is an entry on the Westminster Abbey Commando ROH for a No 2 Commando in the name of Gnr. S. Miller. This entry shows he died of wounds on the same date. There is no S. Miller in the CWGC database dying on that date so the initial may be wrong. In the light of the War Diary entry, and the Westminster Abbey entry, this record is created in the hope that one day more information will come to light to clarify the situation.

It may be that Gnr Miller was either a Commando, or part of the Royal Artillery light ack ack battery assigned to the Commando, whilst they were on Vis. This battery accompanied No 2 on many of their island raids during their stay on Vis.*
