Douglas Sydney Waller, a Butcher from Essex, enlisted into the Armed Forces on 20 October 1939. Subsequently volunteered for the commandos and was attached to No.6 Commando. Private Waller was reported missing 6 January 1943 during operations at Green Hill, Tunisia, later confirmed captured and a prisoner of war 8 January 1943. His Commando were engaged in operations in the Djebel Azzag (Sedjenane) area of Tunisia. Initially held for 4 weeks at a camp in Palermo, Sicily, before relocated to the camps shown above.
