Charles Evans, a Steel Erector from Llanelly, South Wales, enlisted in 1931. Volunteered for the Independent Companies when they were raised in April 1940. Posted No.2 Independent Company. Embarked with Expeditionary Force to Norway 10 May 1940. Reported missing in action 26 May 1940 Norway, later confirmed a prisoner of war. Forced labour in coal mine close to camp. Escaped 16 April 1945 reaching American lines 22 April 1945. Released from service 13 September 1945.
