Alfred Rachell from East London enlisted into the Royal Marines on 26 November 1937. He volunteered for the first RM Commando unit raised in 1942. Marine Rachell was wounded 19 August 1942, hospitalised, and a prisoner of war after Operation Jubilee at Dieppe, France.
