Albert Smart 9 Commando
Albert Smart, a Leicestershire Police Constable, volunteered for the commandos in 1942. Enlisted into the General Service Corps 23 July 1942 and taken on strength 2nd Police Intake, Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. Posted No.9 Commando 24 September 1942. Embarked for Gibraltar 28 October 1942. Returned to UK 15 March 1943. Embarked for overseas service 11 September 1943.
01.02.1944 wounded during operations in Italy (Monte Ornito).
17.02.1944 admitted No.70 British General Hospital.
He did not rejoin the Commando being classed as permanently medically unfit as a result of his wounds spending the next year in 22 Civil Affairs Section and the HQ Military Government Land Section.
24.03.1946 released from service. Final rank attained Corporal.
