Recommended for the Croix de Guerre after Dieppe.
Recommendation
In the action at Dieppe on 19th August 1942 RSM Fortune was senior NCO in the HQ boat. When the HQ officers were killed and the boat put out of action, RSM Martin took command of the survivors, kept them together in the water, and greatly facilitated their rescue. Throughout this action he showed exemplary initiative, endurance, and devotion to duty.
  • 29 November 1951 appointed Second Lieutenant (QM).
