Lance Corporal Clifford Evans was reported missing 4 March 1943 during operations in North Africa, later found to be a prisoner of war. The following year he escaped at Munsterberg, Germany, from a working detachment out of Stalag VIIIA, Gorlitz. Successfully making his way to Sweden he was later repatriated to the UK. Lance Corporal Evans was awarded the Military Medal in recognition of his gallant and distinguished service.
