Sergeant Clive Collins, No.3 Commando, received a Mention in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in the combined attack on Dieppe 18/19 August 1942 [1].
Recommendation
During the naval engagement while the flotilla was approaching the French coast the L.C.P. in which this N.C.O. was travelling was hit by M.G. fire. The Naval Officer was severely wounded and all his crew killed. The military officer was killed and several soldiers wounded; Sgt. Collins took over the control, and although he had no idea where he was, brought the remnants of the section back to England using an army compass [2].
  • Taken off strength No.3 Commando on recommendation for commission.​ Commissioned from O.C.T.U. Second Lieutenant and taken back on strength No.3 Commando 15 June 1943. Promoted Captain [3][4].
