Edward Frank Tewkesbury was a Police Constable at the Police Station in Stowmarket in 1939. He volunteered for the commandos in 1942 and was posted to the 2nd Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. After training stayed on as one of the Boating Instructors [1][1a]][2][2a].

14.09.1942 nominally transferred Royal Armoured Corps, retained on staff Commando Depot.
21.04.1944 promoted Corporal, Commando Basic Training Centre.
26.11.1944 promoted Lance Sergeant, Commando Basic Training Centre.
14.08.1945 Class 'B' release pending from military service for re-employment as a policeman.
31.08.1945 struck off strength Commando Basic Training Centre pending release.
22.09.1945 transferred to Reserve List and struck off strength
22.09.1945 rejoined the Police and posted village beat policeman in Gislingham. Later served as a Police Sergeant in Ipswich

"After a lapse of many years it was pleasant to have news recently of Sgt. of Police E. F. Tewkesbury now stationed at the Section Station, Copdock, Ipswich, on the main Al2 Ipswich - London Road. Many members will remember him as one of the boating instructors at Achnacarry" [2].
