47RM Medical Officer John Forfar MC later wrote "First to be hit was an LCA carrying half of Q troop. While still far out from the shore it was suddenly seen to be listing and sinking, hit probably by a shell. Men were jumping into the water: others were not doing so. The Troop Commander Major Feacey and eleven others, including the troop medical orderly L/Cpl Chatfield, had been killed or drowned and fourteen including the adjutant were wounded – 26 out of the LCA’s 36 occupants".
