Their own 19 year old son, 301321 Private William Bell Begbie was killed in WW1 at the Battle of Arras, France, 9 April 1917, serving with the 1/8th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Remembered with honour on the Arras Memorial. In 1923 they decided to adopt a boy and give him the same name as their son. Their adopted son, as recorded here, was Sergeant William Bell Begbie.
