William Cartwright was a City of London Police Constable, collar no. 90'B', warrant no. 9363, serving in 1939 at Snow Hill Police Station. He volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 and was posted to the 2nd Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. On completion of his course he was posted to No.2 Commando and served in 3 Troop.
