Badges - The position at the moment is that they are being manufactured and the consignment is expected shortly. Each badge will be numbered and an endeavour will be made to give each member the badge carrying his membership number on the reverse side. Badges will be issued free of charge.

Badges for members with membership numbers up to 7,000 are now available, and members who have not yet received their badge should apply for same to the Secretary at an early date enclosing a stamped addressed envelope.

Badges - Many hundreds of members have still not claimed their badges, which can be had on application to the Secretary. We do not send them out before hearing from you as we wish to be certain of your addresses and so many have been lost in the past. By the way, if you are still serving in the Forces overseas, we would prefer to hang on to your badge for you, until you return to U.K. - it is safer that way.

Some 60 years later Ron Youngman, the last Secretary of the original Commando Association, advised that whilst originally the numbers did signify membership number, as the years progressed it became just a number as they ordered more and issued those they had left, and the Association no longer recorded detail of badge numbers against membership (Pete R.).

Post war commando veterans badge

Post war commando veterans badge
This is a post WW2 badge worn by some members of the original Commando Association. It is often erroneously seen advertised as a No.2 Commando Officers badge. The most notable difference between the two is that the genuine No.2 Commando Officers badge did not have the word 'Commando' above it.
