Re-designation of 3 Cdo Bde Air Sqn RM as 847 Naval Air Squadron (R)

1. 3 Commando Brigade Air Squadron Royal Marines will be formally incorporated into the Naval Air Command on Friday 1 Sep 95 and be re-designated 847 Naval Air Squadron.
2. The Squadron will continue to operate Army Lynx and Gazelle aircraft until the introduction of the Attack Helicopter into Army Air Corps Service.

Thereafter it will continue in the light utility role in support of 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines. 

NUNN, Richard James

Lieutenant Richard Nunn was killed during operations in the Falklands.
 

Citation

On Friday 28th May 1982 the 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment was engaged in fierce fighting to take enemy positions in the area of Port Darwin. From dawn, Lieutenant Nunn, a Scout helicopter pilot, had supported the Battalion flying vital ammunition forward to the front line and had evacuated casualties heedless of enemy ground fire. 

THRESH, Leslie Hugh

Lieut. Leslie Thresh was serving at HMS Seahawk, the RNAS Culdrose, at the time of his death. He was on board a Gazelle helicopter from 705 Naval Air Squadron when it flew into overhead power cables crashing into Pendruffle Wood near Herodsfoot six miles south east of Liskeard, Cornwall.  [Sources: AFM ROH / UK military aircraft losses - website ukserials.com]
