Marine Stewart Rhyce-Rees died on a 9 mile cross country march carrying full kit during his Commando training. An inquest heard evidence from pathologist Dr. G.A.C. Lynch that he died from a liver infection. Coroner Mr. W.E.J. Major returned a verdict of "death in accordance with the medical evidence".

The death at the weekend of an eighteen-year-old Royal Marine who collapsed on Dartmoor during training is to be investlgated by a court of inquiry. Marine Duncan Rhyce-Rees, of Dudley Road, Birmingham was on a Commando march.
