Lieut. Aaron Lewis

Lieutenant Aaron Lewis was fatally wounded by a bullet fired from outside the forward operating base Armadillo in Gereshk, Afghanistan.

At the Inquest, Lt Col Neil Wilson, the former commanding officer of 29 Commando Regt., RA, said: "There was a fire fight going on about a kilometre away, some distance from the base. So the alarm started ringing in the base to warn there was a danger. Aaron was in the gym and was running outside to get his body armour and helmet on.  He was literally just going to get it when he was hit by a stray round. It wasn't fired at him it was fired at someone else a long, long way away."

The Coroner, Dr Dean, recorded a narrative verdict saying he died from a gunshot wound while on active service in Afghanistan.
