Corporal George Robertson died at the 50th Field Hospital US Army, Portland Island Dorset, of wounds inflicted at Port-en-Bessin, Normandy.  He was described as a "distinguished Scottish athlete" by Captain Forfar M.C., Medical Officer of the Commando.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. F. George Robertson; husband of Agnes Strachan Robertson (nee Bryson), of Cumbernauld, Dunbartonshire.
George Robertson joined the Stirlingshire Constabulary in April 1937 and was first posted to Causewayhead before transferring to the Burgh of Falkirk. He volunteered for the Commandos joining the Royal Marines in August 1942 and was part of the Police Intakes to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) at Achnacarry. His name is amongst those recorded on the Stirlingshire Constabulary WW2 Memorial Plaque.
