Marine Hugh Stapley died of wounds during operations at Normandy, France. Son of William George and Priscilla Marianne Stapley, of Penshurst, Kent [1][1a][2].
Extract from the Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser 
Much sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stapley, of The Warren. Penshurst, in the loss of their second son. Hugh John Stapley, a Royal Marine Commando, who died of wounds in North West Europe in August. He was 20 years of age. Born at Penshurst, he attended the Church School, and before entering the Marines in 1942 was in the service of Viscount Hardinge at South Park. Mr. Stapley. senr., is estate carpenter for Lord De L'Isle and Dudley. The eldest son, Reginald, is also in the Marines. [3].
