Sergeant Ronald Fielding died during operations at Normandy, France. Third son of Harold and Isabella Fielding; husband of Grace Fielding, of Marton, Blackpool, Lancashire.
Extract from the Rochdale Observer 1st July 1944
"He was 29 years of age and married 18 months ago to a Shaw girl who at that time was serving in the A.T.S. He joined the Forces three years ago and was wounded last year at Salerno. Formerly he worked for Messrs. J. and J. Makin, Wallhead Mills, Rochdale, and he had a wide circle of friends in the town. He was the grandson of Harry Heys, who was a famous local athlete many years ago. A brother is serving with the Cameron Highlanders."
