Cemetery/Memorial: 
Sergeant John Cappleman died during operations at Normandy, France. Son of Barker and Beatrice Ann Cappleman, of York; husband of Dorothy Vera Cappleman, of York. 
John Cappleman volunteered for the Commandos from the Police. In 1939 he was a Police Constable in the York City Police (Pc 80) residing at 59 Maple Grove, York. His name is on the York City Police WW2 Memorial Board in York Magistrates Court.
