Captain Edward Wakefield was killed whilst attached to 2 Special Service Brigade during an operation involving Nos. 40 and 43RM Commando and Partisan forces, against German forces on the island of Brac.
He received a posthumous Mention in Despatches in 1945.

Notes
Wakefield Scholarships.
In 1989 a £300,000 gift to set up scholarships for post-graduate study was made to the Institute of Criminology at Cambridge University. Mrs. Pricilla Mitchell gave the money in memory of her brother, Capt. Roger Wakefield, a barrister killed in action in Yugoslavia in 1944. Two annual awards will be made to students from Canada, Australia and New Zealand. [CA Newsletter 89].
