Lieut (T/Capt) William Pritchard MC was killed during the raid at St Nazaire. He was one of the commando contingent on ML 457.  He, along with fellow Royal Engineer, Captain Bob Montgomery, had been instrumental in the initial planning and training of the demolition teams.
 
He received a MiD in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in action against the enemy during the raid on St. Nazaire. [1]

In July 1940 the then 2/Lieutenant  Pritchard, Royal Engineers T.A., was awarded the MC for gallant and distinguished services in action. [2]
