Lance Sergeant Leslie Harper died during operations at Agnone, Sicily, and the bridge at Malati (3 Commando Bridge) [1][2].
Extract from the Hartlepool Northern Daily Mail.
Published Saturday 28 August 1943. "Commando Killed In Action :-  Mr. and Mrs. S. Harper, 66 Broadway, Blackpool, have received intimation that their son, Sergt. Leslie Harper, of a Commando unit, was killed in action against paratroops in Sicily on July 13." 
"Sgt. Harper was born in West Hartlepool and was educated at West Hartlepool Secondary School.  After leaving school he made boxing his main hobby. He was a cousin of Jack London, the well-known heavyweight. Commando Harper served throughout the Battle of France and had also taken part in raids. As a boxer he was the Scottish Western district amateur middleweight champion."
