PEEBLES, John Alan Laing
Captain John Peebles MC was mortally wounded by a premature explosion of a no. 68 grenade on a field firing exercise at Cheverton Down, nr Ventnor on the Isle of Wight.
Private James Parker died of his injuries on the 14th May 1943. Captain Peebles died on the 11th June 1943 and his funeral, with full military honours, took place on the 16th June at Parkhurst Military Hospital, Newport, IOW.
We have a photo in the gallery of Rfn Tommy Pollock who was seriously injured in the same accident.
