Major Pooley MC was killed during the action in Normandy. 
 
He had been promoted from the rank of Gunner in the Royal Artillery (TA) to be 2/Lt from the 10th January 1940.  After joining No 3 Commando he was awarded the Military Cross whilst a T/Captain in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Sicily.
