Ken spent several years of his childhood in America in the Southern states as his father worked in the Cotton trade. He was a fine amateur boxer. His occupation pre war was as a Cotton Clerk.
On 23/3/1937 he joined ranks of the 10th Kings Liverpool Regiment TA. Then changed to the Liverpool Scottish Btn. Queens Own Cameron Highlanders TA. On the 1st Sept 1939 he was mobilised from the TA to the 1st Liverpool Scottish Regt. He volunteered for Special Service and was posted to No.4 Independent Company at Sizewell. On the 5th May 1940 he proceeded overseas to Norway with Operation Scissorforce. Returned back to Scotland on 1st Jun 1940. In Nov. 1940 he was posted to the 1st Special Service Btn. at Paignton. In Feb. 1941 he was attached to No.2 Commando 5 Troop. Proceeded for service overseas 13/4/43 via Gibralter to the Invasion of Sicily. Then the invasion of Italy (Salerno landings Sept. 1943) and then the Dalmatian Islands off the Yugoslav coast and the island of Vis. He was by this time a Troop Sergeant Major (TSM)of 5 troop, No.2 Commando.
He then went with No.2 Commando to Albania, back again to Italy, ending his war in post war Germany as a Company Sergeant Major (CSM). My father, L/Sgt Joe Rogers MM, served in 5 troop No.2 Cdo. alongside Ken throughout the war. In 1946 my father married Ken's sister Joan, my mother. (Source: Pete Rogers)
