No 42. Royal Marine Commando
Formed in February in 1942 at Chatham four two was recognised at first as a Commando unit. This recognition occurred after the unit moved to Sway.
After training and equipping N0.42 RM Commando embarked for the Far East as part of the inaugural 3 Commando Brigade. Along with No.1 Army Commando, N0.5 Army Commando and No.44 RM Commando. They sailed in November 1943 with their commanding officer LtCol R.C.Leaths.
Along with N0.1 Army Commando they were bombed at sea and put into Alexandra for repairs. After successfully joining the Brigade Four Two played their part in the operations in Burma culminating with the actions in Myebon and Kangaw Hill 170 in Jan/February 1945.
On its return to Britain the unit was redesignated 42 Commando RM on 4th December 1946. Still operating today please follow this link for a continued history.
