Fred was in 2nd Btn Scots Guards prior to volunteering for No.8 Commando where he was posted 'A’ Section 4 Troop, 4th Special Service Battalion. When No.8 was disbanded. Fred moved to the Middle East Commando in Jan. 1942 finally moving to 1 SAS "B" Squadron in Sept/Oct 1942. Fred was killed in Tunisia in January 1943.
