Hello - I'm new to the forum but I hope some of your members may be able to help.
I have been researching my godfather's WW2 service. He enlisted in August 1943 when still under 18 (he was born in December 1925) although his service record indicates that his service "reckons" from 1st February 1944. He was discharged in February 1947 his final unit attachment having been with 45 Cdo.
In March 1945 he landed in Naples with 40 Cdo (which was news to me) as he generally talked about his time in Holland and particularly about Walcheren. Indeed we visited there some years ago and I recall going to the cemetery in Bergen Op Zoom and visiting the grave of his Coy. commander. His Service Record would seem at odds with this, however, as for the period 2nd - 20th November 1944 it indicates that he was with 22nd Training Group. I understand that this was for marines who had not yet reached the age of 19 so would it have precluded service in Holland for that period ?
I would appreciate any guidance.
