Hi Steph and a Happy New Year to you.

According to my records Stanley Orchin was killed during the training phase leading up to Dieppe, and James Keenan died of his wounds the day after the raid.

Regards

Geoff

Hello GEOFF

HAPPY NEW-YEAR to you and family

Thanks for your answer. It will be great to hear
about relative.
I took these photos more 10 years ago, I think it
was in 1997.
The man at the cemetery copied the register concerning
the graves for me. With the cost .

sincerely

Jim Keenan died on the way back from Dieppe on the ship. The story I had was he was wounded and left and the they picked him up on the way back from the raid only to find a german beynoting him. His Wife was my Mum's best friend. Stanley was drowned in an exercise at Arran he and another of No4 went under the landing craft and were drowned.

Beats wishes.

Bill, I realised your account of how Stanley Orchin died is the same account of how Pte Kenneth George Hellyer of No.4 Commando died. I remembered we had a picture and details of him in the gallery. On checking I see they died on the same day and can only assume the two must have been together. I had previously posted a picture of Pte Kenneth Hellyer provided by Erika Garratt (Kenneth was her great uncle) and this includes an account of their deaths from the book " It had to be tough" by Major Dunning (as provided by you). This photo and information can be seen on this link:

also the forum link to Erika's first enquiry:

Just a footnote to this. A few names of the No4 Commandos who died appear on the War Memorial plaque in the Old Troon Parish Church. My Dad's name is on it. Bill
